The story behind Hearthwitch Handicrafts

Sometime between the beginning of the world and yesterday, in a land neither near nor far, there was a great plague that kept the citizens of the world trapped in their homes. Fear and Anger spread throughout the land, even as the plague subsided. Kindness and comfort were often in short supply, and we all needed to find a way to feel safe as the world regained a sense of equilibrium.
In 2020, the world turned sideways with the Covid 19 Pandemic. I spent time at home, on call in case they needed me to work a shift at the hospital. Because I’d go stir-crazy with nothing to do, I started making cotton masks, as so many people did. I put them in a box at the end of my driveway with a suggested donation listed, but encouraged people to take them if they needed them, regardless of their ability to pay. Once I was back to working regular shifts and the need for new masks dropped, I desperately needed to make something fun and whimsical, so I started making the Shoulder Dragons with a pattern by BeeZeeArt. I soon expanded my repertoire to making Bats from her patterns as well, and used them to decorate the windows of my office that October. Next came the gnomes, since I thought people might not appreciate bat decorations when it wasn’t Halloween (I was wrong, but that came later), and platypus, because they were fun. I started selling my items in a shop for local artists, and moved on to craft fairs, and started my website. While I don’t always have the time or energy for large in-person events, I do love making things. Creating pretty, whimsical, or subtly snarky things makes me smile, and are good for my mental health. When they make other people happy as well, that’s even better.

About Me

"Miss Tre(e)" - Head Witch in Charge Generally Pagan, Queer, Neurospicy, and done with hiding myself.
I, and multiple members of my family, identify as some sort of queer and NeuroSpicy. My household also includes people with disabilities, both visible and invisible. As such, I love to cater to people who often feel overlooked and unseen. I have been the one who suffered in silence, so I strive to be a voice for those who can't advocate for themselves. I also try to help people believe that it's good to be unapologetically themselves. Few things make me as happy as seeing someone live their authentic truth.

Why order custom?

Take the guesswork out, and let me make something that's exactly perfect for You.
One of the reasons I prefer to make custom orders is that I'm able to craft something specifically the way someone wants it. Sensory input is important, and very individual. There are types of fabric or yarn I won't work with because I can't handle the way they feel. Likewise, I know other people have specific needs/wants or things that are a "please no" or "Absolutely Not!" I enjoy making weighted critters because they can be wonderful for those of us with anxiety. (I wore one of my shoulder dragons around for a good portion of 2020 because it helped remind me to relax my shoulders when they started tensing up if someone got within my 6 foot bubble.) Some people want more weight, some less. It's easier to make it the way someone wants in the first place. Also, I create with intention. I infuse items with energy focused toward calming/healing/happiness/safety as is appropriate for the specific item and need. Everything gets "good vibes", but it's nice when those can be more focused.
